Privacy policy

Privacy,
in plain view.

This policy explains the information News Orbit handles and why it is needed to provide news, sharing, chat, calling, and account features.

Effective July 11, 2026

1. Information we handle

Account and profile information

We store information you provide or create for your account, such as your username, display name, password hash, avatar reference, profile settings, and account status. We do not store your password in plain text.

News activity

We may store your language preference, bookmarks, app settings, news shares, friend relationships, and the identifiers or metadata needed to show shared stories and saved content.

Communications and social features

When you use messaging, groups, random chat, sharing, vault, or call features, we may process message content, encrypted media and media metadata, conversation membership, friend or block state, delivery and deletion state, and call metadata such as participants, time, duration, and status. News Orbit does not record call audio or video.

Device and service information

We may process push-notification tokens, platform and device identifiers used for notifications, recent app presence, nearby discovery state, and technical records needed to secure, diagnose, and operate the service.

Location for nearby matching

If you choose nearby Random Chat, the app may request precise or approximate latitude and longitude from your device. Coordinates are sent to the News Orbit service only to calculate distance and find a nearby match, are held briefly during the active search, and are not displayed to other users. You can deny location permission, but nearby matching will not work without it.

2. How we use information

  • Authenticate your account and keep your settings in sync.
  • Deliver news feeds, bookmarks, notifications, and language preferences.
  • Enable friend discovery, instant news sharing, chat, media, vault, nearby, and calling features.
  • Prevent abuse, investigate failures, maintain security, and improve reliability.
  • Respond to support, privacy, and account-deletion requests.

3. Service providers and external sources

News Orbit uses service providers to operate specific features. These may include NewsAPI.ai and NewsData.io for news metadata; Firebase Cloud Messaging for push notifications; Agora for call connectivity where enabled; and hosting, database, cache, and content services used to run the app. These providers process information under their own terms and privacy practices.

Opening an original article takes you to the publisher’s website. That publisher may collect information independently under its own privacy policy. News Orbit does not control publisher websites.

4. Advertising and payment

News Orbit does not place advertisements in the app and does not charge a News Orbit membership fee. We do not sell personal information for advertising. Original publishers may operate their own advertising, subscription, or access systems outside News Orbit.

5. Retention and deletion

We retain account-linked information while your account is active and as needed to provide the service, meet legal obligations, prevent abuse, resolve disputes, and maintain security.

Deleting your account removes your account and linked database records. Separate stored files, operational records, or backups may not be erased at the same moment. Contact us if you need a specific data-deletion request reviewed. Files exported or saved outside the News Orbit app remain under your control.

Use the in-app Settings screen or our account deletion page to start a request.

6. Security

We use safeguards such as password hashing, access controls, and encryption for supported message and media storage. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, and you should protect your device and account credentials.

7. Your choices

You can change language and notification settings, manage bookmarks and shared content, block users, remove certain content, sign out, or delete your account. You may also contact us to ask about your information or request correction or deletion where applicable.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as News Orbit changes. The effective date above will be updated when a revised policy is published.
